In 2025, it will be exactly 20 years since Angelica Agurbash represented Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Love Me Tonight". To celebrate this milestone, Angelica is preparing several exciting musical surprises, including a remix album of "Love Me Tonight".

The highlight of the season is the release of her English-language album, "Better Part of Me", which took place on April 11. The album features original tracks created in collaboration with legendary songwriters and producers such as Richard Nowels Jr. (known for his work with Adele, Lana Del Rey, and Madonna), Joe Jorgensen (producer for Frank Sinatra and Engelbert Humperdinck), Iain James (who has worked with One Direction, Emeli Sandé, and Eurovision), as well as Patrik Magnusson and Johan Ramström (from Melodifestivalen), and Carolyn Arends and Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen.

S.I.: Angelica, this year marks the 20th anniversary of your participation in Eurovision. What feelings does this anniversary evoke for you?

A.A.: Participating in Eurovision was one of the most vibrant and significant experiences of my life. It was an incredible journey that left a profound impact on my destiny. Over the past twenty years, so much has changed, but every time the topic of this competition comes up, I fondly remember that unforgettable period. Especially our promotional tour, which became truly legendary: we visited numerous countries in a very short time. Because of this, I gained a vast number of fans across Europe, many of whom are still with me today. It was a genuine creative breakthrough. The song "Love Me Tonight" captured the hearts of millions—it still resonates at Eurovision events, in press centers, fan parties, and is featured in playlists of the best hits of all time from the contest. It’s a great honor to be part of Eurovision's musical history. This year, in celebration of the 20th anniversary, over 100 DJs are creating remixes of "Love Me Tonight". We will select three winners and also release a grand album featuring the 20 best remixes. This project is not only a musical endeavor but also an emotional gift to everyone who supported me back then and continues to stand by me now.

S.I.: Would you like to relive that experience and perform on the Eurovision stage again?

A.A.: Not to repeat it, no. What happened back then was a magic that can't be recreated. It was a unique moment, very powerful in terms of energy. However, I would gladly return as a guest because Eurovision is a special space, almost like a separate planet, where the atmosphere of music, friendship, and unity reigns. The most talented representatives from their countries come together, and it truly is a celebration.

S.I.: How has participating in the competition influenced your life and career?

A.A.: It has had a tremendous impact. First and foremost, in professional terms: I received numerous collaboration offers from European songwriters, producers, and musicians. Most importantly, I gained incredible support and love from fans across various countries.
Thanks to Eurovision, I developed an international fan base that has only grown stronger since then. This experience inspired me to create English-language projects and expand my creative range. It was through this competition that my journey on the international music stage began
S.I.: Tell us, please, about your new English-language album "Better Part of Me".

A.A.: It serves as a natural continuation of my creative journey after Eurovision. The album features songs created in collaboration with leading global songwriters. These songs reflect my experiences, feelings, and emotions. I poured my soul into them. And today, as they resonate on music platforms around the world, I feel a genuine sense of pride.

S.I.: If you were performing at Eurovision today, what would you do differently?

A.A.: I would approach it with a lighter mindset. I would step on stage not to compete, but to enjoy the experience. However, I wouldn’t change anything about my performance back then—it was genuine, sincere, and truly me.

S.I.: This year marks a double anniversary for you: 35 years of creative work and a personal milestone. Do you see this as the beginning of a new chapter?

A.A.: It’s certainly an important milestone. However, I don’t feel my age. Inside, I’m still that same playful girl, filled with a great love for life. This state of mind is my source of inspiration. I’m excited to celebrate my anniversary with new projects and a positive outlook.

S.I.: What can fans expect in the near future?

A.A.: On May 16, a single from the second part of the album "Otkrovennaya-2" will be released, and in the fall, there will be a premiere of the entire album along with a new concert program on October 30. I am also preparing a anniversary album featuring 35 songs chosen by my fans—this will be a very personal project. And, of course, my memoirs—novels based on real events. The first novel is nearly finished, and I am confident that it will reveal the true Angelica to people.

S.I.: What gives you the strength and inspiration to keep moving forward?

A.A.: It’s my inner state. I’m still full of energy, ideas, and a love for life. Plus, my Creative Center, where I teach a new generation of artists, is incredibly inspiring. I’m not just sharing my experience—I’m growing alongside them. As long as there’s love, music, devoted fans, and inspiration, my journey will continue.

Interview by Maria Alvares
"I have found my identity as a person, as a woman, and as a mother. I have three wonderful, amazing, and self-sufficient children who are now adults and independent from me. Because of this, I am an absolutely happy woman, a fulfilled person, and a joyful artist. I have many devoted fans who truly appreciate me, and I am endlessly grateful for that happiness"
